Mercure Rennes Colombier Hotel is located right next to the Les Colombiers shopping centre, a large inner city retail complex featuring high street shops and cinemas. The area could be a bit intimidating at night.
This is a mid-rise modern construction featuring much concrete and glass. On the main road entry, there is a large canopy complex with a restaurant and bar.
The modern, functional lobby area is accessed through a door from a small side street off the main road. This is close to the underground car park entrance. Female guests may like to bear this in mind when arriving after dark. The lobby is medium to large in size, with a central feature containing magazines and flower arrangements and a small seating area to the rear. |

Mercure Rennes Colombier Hotel located in the city centre, 5 min walk from the railway station (TGV). Air-conditioned hotel nestled in a stunning environment within the Broceliande forest.
Rennes' surviving medieval quarter, bordered by the canal to the west and the river to the south, radiates from Porte Mordelaise, the old ceremonial entrance to the city. Just to the northeast of the porte, the place des Lices, is dominated by two usually empty market halls but comes alive every Saturday for one of France's largest street markets.
The place was originally the venue for jousting tournaments, and it was on this spot in 1337 that the hitherto unknown Bertrand du Guesclin, then aged 17, fought and defeated several older opponents. This set him on his career as a soldier, during which he was to save Rennes when it was under siege by the English. However, after the Bretons were defeated at Auray in 1364, he fought for the French, and twice invaded Brittany. |
